What’s different about the ‘new atheism’?
Is the ‘new atheism’ just the same old same old, but with a different skin? Al Mohler, president of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, says not, according to a recent blog post by Michael Patton. Mohler identifies the following key differences (my words, not his, nor Patton’s): It celebrates atheism, rather than mourning the loss of [...]

According to Plan:
The unfolding revelation of God in the Bible
Graeme Goldsworthy, IVP 1991
Most of us are not very good at understanding how the overall message of the Bible hangs together. We read the New Testament, and we read individual stories from the Old Testament. But how does it all fit together as one message? Goldsworthy shows how the whole Bible points to Jesus Christ - Old Testament as well as New.
Dr Graeme Goldsworthy is a lecturer in Old Testament, Biblical Theology and hermeneutics at Moore Theological College, Sydney, Australia.

Preaching the Whole Bible as Christian Scripture:
The application of biblical theology to expository preaching
Graeme Goldsworthy, IVP 2000
When we preach and teach from the Old Testament, there is a danger that we use the text as nothing more than moralistic examples, without seeing (or helping our hearers to see) how the whole Bible points to Christ. In this important book, Goldsworthy examines how an overview of the message of Scripture (Biblical theology) can help us to prepare messages that are Christ-centered. He then goes on to explore how this works with the different genres of literature that make up the Bible.
Dr Graeme Goldsworthy is a lecturer in Old Testament, Biblical Theology and hermeneutics at Moore Theological College, Sydney, Australia.

The New Tolerance
Josh McDowell, & Bob Hostetler, Tyndale House 1998
Anyone today who claims that there is such a thing as absolute truth, or that there are moral standards which apply to everyone, is labeled as arrogant, bigoted, and intolerant. This book explores the agenda behind 'the new tolerance', how we can discern truth from error, how we can be genuinely tolerant and accepting of people without having to say that all beliefs and lifestyles really are equal, and what it means to live as followers of Christ in an often-hostile postmodern culture.
Josh McDowell is well known as the author of 'Evidence that demands a Verdict'

Look to the Rock:
An Old Testament Background to our understanding of Christ.
by Alec Motyer, IVP 1996
Motyer argues that the Bible is one book, not two separate testaments. The Old Testament is essential for understanding the New. He looks at
- Christ as fulfillment: The themes of King and kingdom
- Christ as climax: The themes of covenant, grace and law
- Christ as Revelation: The image of God and the Word of God
- Christ our life: Sin and Death
- Christ our hope: Creation and Consumation
Each chapter looks at what the Old Testament teaches then ends with a helpful section on 'avenues into the New Testament'.
Alec Motyer was the Principal of Trinity College, Bristol, and is well known as the author of several key books, including 'The Prophecy of Isaiah.' He is also the Old Testament editor of the 'Bible Speaks Today' series of commentaries.

God's Big Picture
Tracing the story-line of the Bible
by Vaughan Roberts
IVP 2002
In "God's Big Picture" Vaughan Roberts helps us to
see the Bible as one book, with one author (God) and one consistent
theme - God's kingdom - God's people, living in God's place,
under God's rule and blessing.
The key principle Roberts develops for understanding the Bible as one book with one message is that the whole Bible points to Jesus Christ - the Old Testament as well as New Testament.
