Mike Frost

Mike Frost UK tour, 3rd-11th October 2008

Go here for tickets for the Southampton event.

Co-hosted by Focus and the Evangelical Alliance

What will the Church in the UK be like ten years from now? Not the same as it is today, that's for sure.

A million people left the churches in the ten years between 1989 and 1998. The latest figures show that the decline is slowing down, but it's hardly enough to claim that we're 'pulling out of the nose dive.'

Yes, we need to pray fervently. But do we also need to do things differently? Perhaps some of the ways we've done things in the past aren't so effective any more. Is it time for a rethink?

Yes it is. We need to start thinking like missionaries to our own country. Many of the people around us have no idea what the message of Jesus is about. We need to infiltrate their worlds with the Good News.

We need to go where they are, rather than waiting for them to come to us to hear the message on our terms. As Mike Frost says:

We need to recover the missional genius of the early church, which was modelled on Jesus.

Mike Frost is one of the world's leading thinkers about how the Church needs to change. He's the author of 'Exiles: living missionally in a post-Christian culture,' and co-author (with Alan Hirsch) of 'The Shaping of Things to Come: innovation and mission for the 21st-century church.' Mike heads up the Centre for Evangelism and Global Mission at Morling College in Australia. He says:

We are living in an incredibly urgent time that can be described as the greatest spiritual awakening in the history of Western culture, and the message of the church is not even getting any airplay.

There's a unique opportunity to hear Mike Frost when he visits the UK in October. If you're concerned about what the future holds for the Church in this country, and if you want to know what can be done to reverse the decline, you need to hear what he has to say. Mike will be in Southampton, speaking at the Future Church event on Friday 3rd and Saturday 4th October, in London on Friday 10th and Saturday 11th October, and other locations in the week in between.
