About Focus Radio - who is behind the 'Facing the Challenge' courses?
The 'Facing The Challenge' family of courses is produced and distributed by Focus Radio as a Bible based response to the challenges of postmodern culture. Focus Radio is a mass media and multi media agency based in the UK, specialising in creative ways to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with people today.
World of Science
Founded in 1976 to produce radio programmes for international evangelism, Focus Radio produced the news programme 'World of Science' for many years. We broadcast this successfully all over the world. As well as scientific news, it included interviews with leading research scientists who were also followers of Christ, and comments on scientific issues (such as the ethics of Genetic Engineering) from the perspective of a follower of Christ.
India
Focus Radio also produced 'Leadership Now' - a series to train and encourage isolated rural pastors and evangelists in India. Initially in English, we later broadcast these programmes in Hindi and Tamil as well, with the Tamil programmes attracting one of the largest-ever letter responses to the station that transmitted them.
The Russian world
Focus Radio produces 'Abundant Life'- a series of training programmes based on the course of the same name published by SEAN - Study by Extension for All Nations. We have broadcast 'Abundant Life' in Russian, Latvian, and several other languages of the former Soviet Union, as well as in English.
The Olympics
In September 2000, Focus Radio organised a partnership of radio organisations to send seventeen broadcasters and journalists to Sydney for the Millennium Olympic Games. They broadcast reports and interviews in nine major languages to hundreds of radio stations on all five continents.
David Couchman - Director
Focus Radio's Director, David Couchman, has a respected Bible teaching ministry. Many of his sermons can be found on this web site.
David has led seminars at national events such as the Christian Resources Exhibition, Keswick Convention, and FIEC Conference.
He has a Master's degree in theology and natural sciences from Cambridge University, and is currently working towards a Doctorate of Ministry at University of Wales Lampeter.
David is married, with two daughters, and the family are part of Above Bar Church, Southampton.
